Eminem is suing Meta, the parent company of Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp, for copyright infringement, accusing the tech giant of distributing over 200 of his songs without permission. Eminem's music publishing company, Eight Mile Style, filed the lawsuit on May 30 and is seeking damages of up to $109 million. Meta included Eminem's songs in its music libraries, allowing users to use features like Original Audio and Reels Remix.
The lawsuit claims Meta violated the copyrights of 243 Eminem songs, accusing Meta of "unauthorized storage, reproduction, and exploitation." Eight Mile Style claims that the infringement has diminished the value of the songs and resulted in financial losses for the company. The lawsuit seeks statutory damages of up to $150,000 per song and platform, totaling $109.35 million.
