Ryan Lochte, an Olympic swimmer, and his wife, Kayla Reid, are officially ending their seven-year marriage.
Kayla confirmed the news on Instagram on Wednesday, June 4, 2023, stating that after careful consideration, she initiated the divorce proceedings earlier this year.
Reid writes, "Earlier this year, I made the hard decision to end my marriage after deep prayer and reflection.
I hold marriage in the highest regard, so this has been one of the most painful, revealing, and challenging seasons of my life."
The couple, who met in 2016 during the Rio Olympics year, has three children: Caiden Zane, who is almost 8 years old, Liv Rae, who is almost 6 years old, and Georgia June, who will turn two later this month. They got engaged in October 2016, and two years later, in 2018, they tied the knot.
Lochte, a 12-time Olympic medalist, has chosen not to comment publicly on the split. The announcement comes after a difficult year for the athlete, who previously discussed recovering from a near-fatal car accident in 2023 and the subsequent mental health issues.
