Matthew Hughes, Eminem’s stalker, has been sentenced to 15-30 years in prison

Matthew Hughes, a 32-year-old man who repeatedly stalked and broke into rapper Eminem's home, has been sentenced to 15-30 years for first-degree home invasion and three to seven years and six months for aggravated stalking, with the sentences to be served consecutively.

Hughes was convicted last month following a brief jury trial in which Eminem, real name Marshall Mathers, testified. Hughes is now legally prohibited from making any contact with the rapper or approaching him within 500 feet of his home or workplace. This latest conviction stems from a second break-in, which occurred just months after Hughes was released from parole in May 2024.

His relationship with Eminem goes back many years. Hughes gained national attention in 2020 when he broke into Eminem's home and was discovered standing behind the rapper while he slept. According to police reports from the time, Hughes informed Eminem that he was there to kill him. He later accepted a plea deal and was sentenced to five years probation, which he violated in November by committing another assault that resulted in jail time.

Hughes had also been arrested in 2019 for trespassing and sleeping in a guest house on a property previously owned by Eminem.
